Imagine a tutor who is available at any hour, never loses patience, and can explain the same idea in ten different ways. AI chatbots are beginning to play this role for millions of students. Some schools have introduced AI tools that help students with math problems or give feedback on essays.

The potential benefits are significant. In a typical classroom, one teacher must support thirty or more students, and some fall behind without anyone noticing. An AI tutor can adjust to each student's level, offering easier questions to those who are struggling and more challenging ones to those who are ready.

However, teachers have raised concerns. Students may use AI to complete assignments without actually learning anything. AI systems also sometimes give wrong answers with great confidence, and students may not have the knowledge to notice the mistakes. There are also questions about how student data is collected and used.

Many educators believe the solution is not to ban AI but to teach students how to use it wisely. That means asking AI to explain its reasoning, checking its answers, and using it to practice rather than to avoid thinking. Used this way, AI could become a powerful assistant to teachers rather than a replacement for them.
