主語が長いときや接続詞で結ばれているとき、動詞の単数・複数を取り違えやすくなります。

修飾語句を外して主語を見つける

The results of the survey show ～（results が主語）。The list of items is ～（list が主語）。
前置詞句・関係詞節・分詞句を外すと、本当の主語が見えます。

接続詞で結ばれた主語

A and B：複数。either A or B / neither A nor B / not only A but also B / not A but B：Bに一致。A as well as B / A along with B / A together with B：Aに一致。

単数扱い・複数扱いの注意

each / every / either / neither（単独）：単数。one of the＋複数名詞：単数（One of the files is missing）。動名詞・to 不定詞・名詞節の主語：単数。分数・percent・most・some・half of＋名詞：of の後の名詞に一致（Half of the money is / Half of the students are）。there is / are：後ろの名詞に一致。時間・金額・距離のまとまり：単数（Ten years is a long time）。
