品詞の見分け方（TOEIC Part 5 の中心）

品詞と語形 大学・TOEIC上級

TOEIC Part 5 の約3割は「同じ語の品詞違い」を選ぶ問題です。意味を考える前に、空所の位置で品詞を決めるのがコツです。

空所の位置で決まる品詞

冠詞／所有格＋□＋名詞 → 形容詞（a successful launch）
冠詞／所有格＋(形容詞)＋□ → 名詞（the success, their decision）
be動詞＋□＋過去分詞／～ing → 副詞（is carefully reviewed）
主語＋□＋動詞 → 副詞（She recently joined）
他動詞＋□ → 名詞（目的語）
be動詞＋□（文末） → 形容詞（補語）
前置詞＋□ → 名詞・動名詞

語尾で見分ける品詞

名詞：-tion, -sion, -ment, -ness, -ity, -ance, -ence, -er / -or（人）, -ist, -ship, -al（approval, arrival）
形容詞：-ive, -able, -ible, -ous, -ful, -less, -al, -ic, -ent, -ant, -ary
副詞：形容詞＋-ly
動詞：-ize, -ify, -en, -ate

人か物か・可算か不可算か

名詞が2つ候補にあるときは、人（applicant, employee, supervisor）と事・物（application, employment, supervision）を区別し、冠詞の有無で可算・不可算を判断します。
例：a ___ for the position → applicant（人・可算）、___ for the position must be submitted → applications（物・複数）。

品詞問題は1問10〜20秒で解けるので、確実な得点源になります。本文を全部読まず、空所の前後2〜3語だけで判断する練習をしましょう。
